More than 2 years ago my health began to deteriorate. I was suffering from excessive menstrual bleeding and as you can imagine it adversely affected every part of my life. By the time I was admitted to the hospital I had about 60% of normal blood volume. I was headed for a stroke or a heart attack, but averted demise because my body recovered every month, yet not enough to be normal.
Transfusion: 5 units of blood and blood plasma. Result: throw out my blood donor card.
I was given estrogen, birth control pills, to curb the bleeding and it started to work…well…too well…. Exactly 4 months to the day I started the birth control pills, I was again hospitalized but this time with a blood clot, a known side effect of birth control pills, in the leg.
The Pain. “Nurse! Please call the surgeon and tell him to cut off my leg!”
Happily, my request was denied, and I was offered halal – kosher meals in place of an amputation and drugs for the pain. It was the first time in my life I took “drugs” and the effects were marvelous. (Note: Don’t Do Drugs without your doctor’s supervision.)
SubhanAllaah wa alhamdulillaah wa laa illaaha ilallaah wa Allaahu Akbar!

It has been more than a year since joining the temporary disabled list. I am unable to sit at the sewing machine, am using a wheelchair, and hope to graduate to crutches. Among my goals include unassisted walking, insha’Allaah. Much of my time is spent reflecting, reading, and writing.
The new URBAN HIJAB® site is a humble effort.
I am grateful to Allaah, the Creator for the Imaan, Faith, which sustains me and brings me through repeated challenges, alhamdulillaah. I want to thank you all for your prayers, words of encouragement, and kindness. Your sincerity is heartfelt and appreciated.
