Eid ul-Adha is the “Festival of Sacrifice” celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his first son Ismail (AS) as an act of obedience to Allaah (SWT) – God Almighty. Upon his willingness to follow the commands of Allaah (SWT), He provided Ibrahim a ram to sacrifice in place of his son.
Eid al-Adha occurs the day after the pilgrims in Makkah conducting the Hajj descend from Mount Arafat. This holiday falls on the 10th day of the month of Dhul Hijja. Dhul Hijja is the 12th month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice (a ram); And We left for him (a goodly remembrance) among the later generations. “Salaam (peace) be upon Ibraaheem (Abraham)!”
